Connecting with Students Virtually

In a virtual world it is more important than ever to make every effort to connect with your students, one of the most effective ways to connect is through video chat. Some popular platforms for video chatting our listed below.

  • Virtual Classroom- Using free or paid accounts like Zoom, Blackboard, Google meet, etc., teachers can host meetings with hundreds of attendees, share files with students, share lesson plans, give instruction, illustrate using a whiteboard, create breakout rooms for student to student learning and so much more.

Calling on students can be very powerful in a virtual setting.

  • Kahoots- Maybe you aren’t feeling at your creative best and need a little help, the GetKahoot website makes it easy to turn your content into a gameshow. All you have to do is enter your prepared Q and A into the site and Kahoot does all the work. All your students need to do is download the Kahoot app to use as a buzzer to join in on the fun.
  • Google Classroom- You can use this platform to engage students in discussion and post announcements. Having trouble with classroom participation, you can use the student randomizer and call on students and boost engagement.
